The basics

What are cloud migration services?

Cloud migration services are the planning, data transfer and support needed to move your business email, files, applications and servers from on-site hardware to cloud platforms such as Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Azure.

A partner assesses what you have, decides what should move and how, transfers it securely with minimal downtime, then configures security, backup and access so your team can work from anywhere.

Is it time

Signs your business is ready to move

01

Your server is over five years old or out of warranty

02

Staff need a VPN, or cannot reach files, when remote

03

You still run Exchange or aging Windows Server

04

A power outage stops everyone from working

05

Hardware refreshes and licenses keep coming back

06

A second office or new hire takes weeks of IT setup

End-of-support deadlines to watch

Exchange Server 2016 and 2019: support ended October 2025. Windows Server 2016: extended support ends January 12, 2027. Unsupported systems stop getting security updates, which can affect cyber insurance and compliance reviews.

What we migrate

Everything your team uses, moved in the right order

01

Email to Microsoft 365

Mailboxes, calendars and contacts from Exchange, Google Workspace or GoDaddy, with your domain and history intact.

02

File servers to SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams

Folder structure and permissions mapped, duplicates cleaned, version history built in.

03

Servers and apps to Azure

Line-of-business apps, databases and remote desktops, sized correctly from the start.

04

Google Workspace

Migrations to and from Workspace, and help choosing the right platform.

05

Line-of-business software

Accounting, practice management and ERP: move, host or replace, working with your vendors.

06

Backups and disaster recovery

Cloud backup replaces tape and local boxes, so a fire, flood or ransomware does not take your data.

Strategies

Six ways to move a workload

Not every system should move the same way. During planning each workload gets one strategy based on cost, risk and value.

Rehost

Move a server as it is, often called lift and shift.

Best for fast moves off aging hardware

Replatform

Small improvements during the move, such as a managed database.

Best for apps needing modest upgrades

Refactor

Rebuild an application to use cloud-native features.

Best for custom software that must scale

Repurchase

Replace an on-site system with a cloud subscription.

Best for Exchange to Microsoft 365

Retire

Shut down systems nobody uses anymore.

Best for cutting cost and attack surface

Retain

Keep a system on-site for now.

Best for equipment controllers, huge local files

Our process

Seven steps from assessment to ongoing management

STEP 1

Discovery and assessment

Inventory servers, apps, data, users, licenses and internet.

STEP 2

Plan and budget

Written plan with strategy, schedule, monthly costs and rollback.

STEP 3

Security setup

MFA, conditional access, permissions and backup before data moves.

STEP 4

Pilot migration

A small group moves first to catch issues with real workflows.

STEP 5

Scheduled cutover

After hours or weekend, with data synced in advance.

STEP 6

Validation and hypercare

Test everything, plus extra support the first week.

STEP 7

Ongoing management

Updates, security, users, backups and cloud spend.

DOWNTIME PLAN

Pre-staged syncs, after-hours switchovers, and a documented rollback for every system.

Where should it live

On-premises vs cloud vs hybrid

The cloud is not right for everything. We recommend the setup that fits your business, not moves for the sake of it.

The cloud does not move responsibility for your data

Providers secure their data centers. You remain responsible for accounts, access, configuration and data protection, so we build security into every migration

Microsoft 365 still needs its own backup

Deleted items are recoverable only for a limited time. We add dedicated backup so you can restore any mailbox, site or file from any point in time.

HIPAA

Business associate agreement and the right configuration for healthcare practices.

CMMC

Specialized government cloud environments for defense supply chain firms

FTC Safeguards Rule

Encryption, MFA and monitoring for financial firms.

Field crews reach plans from job sites. Architects keep big CAD and BIM files local in a hybrid setup. Practices get HIPAA-ready email, storage and backup.

Why the cloud makes sense here

Teams are spread across Uptown, South End, Ballantyne and University City, with staff commuting from Concord, Huntersville, Matthews or Fort Mill.

When storms knock out power across Mecklenburg County, as Hurricane Helene did in 2024, office servers go dark. Cloud systems keep working wherever there is internet.

Cost

How much does cloud migration cost?

Usually a one-time project fee, then monthly platform and management costs. Price depends on users and mailboxes, data volume, servers and apps, compliance needs, and permission complexity.

Compare against the cost of staying put: the next server, licenses, maintenance, power and downtime risk. We show both sides in your plan.

Frequently asked questions about cloud migration services in Charlotte, NC

How long does a cloud migration take?

A small office moving email and files to Microsoft 365 can often finish in a few weeks including planning. Larger projects take longer.

We sync data in advance and switch over after hours or on a weekend, so most businesses see little or none during working hours.

Platforms are strong, but configuration matters. We set up MFA, access controls, encryption, monitoring and backup.

Microsoft offers limited recovery for deleted items but not a full backup. We recommend dedicated Microsoft 365 backup.

Not always. Equipment-controlling systems or very large local files may suit on-site or hybrid.

Cloud files can sync locally, and a backup internet connection keeps the office online.

Both are excellent. Azure fits Microsoft 365 and Windows shops; AWS suits some specialized apps.

Usually yes: host it in the cloud, move to the vendor’s cloud version, or replace it.

Yes. We plan the environment and configuration before migration and work with your compliance advisors.

We keep managing users, security, updates, backups and cost optimization.
